Coastal Vibes

Achieving the coastal neutral Hamptons style look on a budget is challenging but so satisfying.  I am notorious for changing decor on a whim.  It becomes expensive and wasteful.  Finally, I have found my vibe and this is it.  I love the textures that come with this colour palette.

Read on to see how I have sources items to create this look on a budget.

Lounge Room

A small and very ornate lounge.  With extremely high ornately plastered ceilings and 3 openings, the layout of this lounge room is challenging. Wall space is a luxury.  Behind my beautiful shutters by Brisbane Shutters are very intricate lead light glass window.  I had to make the sad decision to hide these window due to the damaging western sun and security bars.  However, I was pleasantly surprised to see how the shutters modernised my look and I have now let go the beautiful windows hiding behind.

Because the 100 year old pine floorboards colour over years to a golden colour the cream palette calms down the timber floors.

Staging my replica Matthew Hilton coffee tables from Fantastic furniture took some time.  I decided a lovely tray from Spotlight would hold my coastal nic naks from Bali with the exception of the cute as a button glass jellyfish from Kmart.

Love my glass jellyfish from Kmart

My Nick Scali 3 seater lounge was my only luxurious splurge, covered in a gorgeous heavy linen taupe matching my taupe wall. This purchase bought all my decor together.  My beautiful hand made in India pure wool cream rug brought all my pieces together.

You may be thinking why my wall aren't painted in crisp white!  While that would be my ulitmate choice my walls, being over 80 years old are hand plastered with horse hair and them covered with a very strong wall paper to covered the imperfections.  White, unfortunately showed every blemish and crevice whereas the taupe was very forgiving.

My wall decor are two vintage 30 year old silk painted pieces from Singapore given to my by my Mum on one of her adventurous trips before backpacking was a thing!  To compliment these pieces a discovered Balinese painting unique to the Ubud, Gianyar Provence.  Painters reproduce famous images of Balinese life with intricate miniature detail.

Dining Room

With two large archways and a major walk through to the kitchen, this area is another challenge.  My aim was to keep the area streamlined to allow easy flow through of humans.  Following the neutral palette I replaced my old leather chairs with lovely linen covered chairs from Matt Blatt furniture who specialises in unique and replica designer furniture.  Terrified of oil marks I sprayed the chairs with scotch guard to an inch of their lives.  What an amazing product.  I could not even see where I had sprayed.

My beautiful sideboard was handmade by my dad re-purposed out of a 100 yea old wardrobe using timber from my great great grandfathers property in Ma Ma Creek near Toowoomba.  The very rare birds eye pine takes centre stage on the top.

Pieces decorating the top are all made un Ubud Bali on one of my man trips.  Click here for shopping in Ubud for Home decor

My Balinese hand carved Melati ceremony figurines give a calming spiritual feel to the sideboard.  My exquisite hand carved Balinese mask made from mango wood by a dear man I found is definitely a prized possession.  The detail is incredible.

My beautiful Indigenous artwork by Minnie Pwerle's daughter, Betty Mbitjana, takes price of place.  These indigenous women from the Utopia region in Central Australia are the most talented artists creating modern abstract twist on traditional painting.

Centred on my oak dinging room table by Freedom furniture is my candle haven.  Candles from Aldi, Tx Maxx and Kmart fill an antique wooden parat bowl from India.
